Workshop Session I

Morning

Lectio Divina Workshop

Lectio Divina, an ancient practice of praying the Scriptures led by Joanna Brunson, Coordinator for Contemplative Outreach’s Atlanta Chapter and member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Decatur Georgia. Lectio Divina, the literal meaning “divine reading.” During Lectio Divina, the practitioner listens to the text of the Bible with the “ear of the heart,” as if he or she is in conversation with God, and God is suggesting the topics for discussion. This method of prayer has its origins in the Hebrew practice of studying scripture and later in Christian monasteries where it was formalized by Guigo II, a Carthusian monk and prior of Grande Chartreuse in the 12th century.

Financial Literacy & Beginner Investments Workshop

It’s never too late or too early to become financially literate! During this workshop we will discuss how to find financial planning resources, making smart money moves, and an introduction to investing.

Service Workshop - Service Ops/Pregnancy Aid Center

We are good to others because God first has been good to us. This message is conveyed about “love” in 1 John 4:19. With our convention theme in mind, “Loving in the Goodness of God,” we encourage you to join us for our service workshop. This workshop will include engaging information sharing, service opportunities, tips on coordinating a service project and Q&A. Also we will hear from a Pregnancy Aid Clinic (PAC) of Roswell representative, who will share information about their program, and provide recipient testimonies of how their lives have been positively impacted by PAC.

End of Life Planning - Getting all your ducks in a row

Getting all your ducks in a row so that your family can mourn without frustration. What documents do you need to have in place? Do you need a professional to put them all together for you? Should you go ahead and make your arrangements with a funeral home? This workshop will provide resources and help you prepare.

Workshop Session II

Afternoon

Technology Workshop – How to keep people informed

How to use technology to keep your group informed. Newsletters, email groups, phone trees, oh my! One of the most important parts of organizing your PCCW (Parish Council of Catholic Women) is keeping them informed about service opportunities, meetings, socials, etc. This workshop will give you pointers on how to keep everyone in the loop. We will also explore the resources available on the National Council of Catholic Women website.

Resource Awareness/Self Care Workshop

As women, we wear many hats as mothers, daughters, sisters, friends, students and workers and often care for others first. We will share information on self-care as we support those we love and ways to nurture ourselves spiritually, physically and mentally.

Peace & Justice Workshop

“Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink?” The Bashor Homeless Men’s Shelter (formerly known as Central Night Shelter) serves the needs of 90-100 homeless men in downtown Atlanta from Nov. 1 to March 31. Each evening the homeless men have a safe and welcoming place to eat, sleep and shower. One of the two downtown locations is at The Catholic Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. The Catholic community is an integral part in the important role in the work of serving the homeless men at the Bashor Homeless Men’s Shelter. Please join us for this session to learn more about the issues of homelessness and how you or your church community can help. “Whatever you do for the least of mine you do for me.”
